Currently, there is no nursing theory available to guide nurses in addressing this issue. This study aims to describe a situation-specific nursing practice theory designed to promote healthy internet use in adolescents. A four-step integrative approach was used to develop a situation-specific theory. A comprehensive literature review, cognitive-behavioral and developmental theories, expert opinions, and findings from theory testing formed the primary sources. As a result, the Care Bag Theory for Healthy Internet Use in Adolescents (CHIA) was developed. The theory may guide nurses in promoting healthy internet use in adolescents.

Human-centered design (HCD) is increasingly applied in global sexual and reproductive health research to engage communities in creating person-centered interventions, yet it remains underutilized in the United States (US). A stronger theoretical understanding of HCD can support nurses to apply it as a novel approach to address persistent sexual and reproductive health inequities. This narrative review analyzes 10 US-based family planning HCD studies using the concept of epistemic stance to clarify how knowledge is created and evaluated through HCD. Findings show that HCD embodies a pluralistic stance grounded in creativity, context, and shared expertise, supporting nursing's philosophical commitment to relational, person-centered care.

Safety for transgender, non-binary, and gender-expansive (TGNE) individuals includes freedom from discrimination, stigma, and threats to psychological well-being. This paper presents an application of Roy's adaptation model (RAM) to examine safety across the physiological, self-concept, role function, and interdependence modes through a fictional case study of a TGNE patient in a nurse-client encounter. Our analysis reveals how nurses can foster affirming environments, address systemic barriers, and use theory to guide adaptive and equitable care. This application highlights the connection between nursing theory and practice and demonstrates how RAM can inform nurse-led interventions to support TGNE patients' adaptation, well-being, and experiences of safety.

Minority stress is a cumulative and unique form of stress resulting from societal and environmental conditions. This integrative review aimed to synthesize factors that generate minority stress in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender and gender nonconforming individuals. Systematic literature searches were conducted in 7 databases, and the data were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Five main themes were identified: (1) social ambivalence, (2) identity formation, (3) persecution from society, (4) inequity in society, and (5) devaluation of identity. Nursing and health sciences can benefit from incorporating this theoretical framework when designing interventions that promote health and prevent illness among sexual and gender minorities.

Asthma remains highly prevalent among adolescents, many of whom experience poor control despite medical advances. Adolescents are often expected to manage their asthma independently, yet may lack the necessary knowledge, skills, and autonomy. Existing family-centered frameworks frequently overlook their developmental needs. This paper introduces the Adolescent Asthma Self-Management Behavioral Framework, which emphasizes cognitive, behavioral, and emotional autonomy within social and developmental contexts. By addressing these gaps, the framework can advance clinical practice and guide future research toward developmentally appropriate, autonomy-supportive, and contextually relevant approaches to adolescent asthma self-management.

A working knowledge of theory requires theory translation within and outside the nursing discipline to guide practice and inform generative epistemic nursing knowledge. However, theory focused content for application to practice is scarce in many Doctor of Nursing (DNP) education programs. Communication between faculty and students regarding the use of theory to guide practice is an important action that is not well understood. The terminology to describe this process is nursing theory conversance (NTC). However, NTC has not been defined within the literature. We provide a tentative definition of NTC and explore its importance in DNP education.

Patient reports of emotional harm during healthcare experiences require urgent action to center emotional safety as core to patient safety. We conducted a dimensional concept analysis to clearly define the dimensions of patient emotional safety. We propose a preliminary definition with dimensions that characterize patient emotional safety related to the experience of individual and structural dimensions of autonomy, human connectedness, practice of structural humility, and secure environment during healthcare interactions. This work serves as an initial step towards understanding patient emotional safety to inform future studies, education, practice, and advocacy to improve patient safety, quality of care, and health outcomes.

This article describes the development of the Nurses' Implicit Bias Toward Older Adults Mid-Range Nursing Theory, which explains how biased care arises and affects older adults. Drawing from Pepper's contextual-development worldview, Parse's Humanbecoming Paradigm, and an emancipatory perspective, the theory integrates implicit social cognition to explain how nurses' backgrounds and unconscious processes influence clinical practice. Key "mitigation points" are identified for targeted interventions to address bias. This framework provides a foundation for future research on implicit bias in nursing, with implications for equitable health care delivery and improved older adult patient outcomes, supporting the advancement of nursing science and professional practice.

This philosophical reflection analyzes nursing clinical care in light of Hannah Arendt's concepts of labor, work, and action. Grounded in a hermeneutic approach, the analysis articulates The Human Condition with scientific literature on clinical care, aiming to understand how these categories expand the meaning and practice of caregiving. The reflection highlights that clinical care involves complementary dimensions: labor, which sustains life; work, which structures and gives permanence to actions; and action, which expresses freedom, ethics, and responsibility in human relationships. This triad allows care to be recognized as a creative and transformative practice that integrates technical skills, sensitivity, and social commitment. It is concluded that Arendtian thought provides a foundation for humanistic nursing, capable of articulating theory, research, and practice in the construction of ethical and meaningful care.

This study explores the lived experiences of Nurses in Latin America through Enrique Dussel's phenomenology of liberation. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected in 2 phases through in-depth interviews and reflective diaries. Findings reveal themes of resistance, corrupted care, autonomy, and Cuidado as a liberating praxis. Nurses navigate systemic oppression with resilience, drawing strength from community ties and ethical commitment. The study concludes that Nursing in Abya Yala is not only a practice of care but also a political and emancipatory act, contributing to the decolonization of disciplinary knowledge and the redefinition of Nursing in the region.

Patient safety incident reporting is essential for maintaining health care quality, yet nurses often underreport these issues due to psychological and organizational barriers. Using an extended Theory of Planned Behavior model, 211 nurses at a Seoul hospital were surveyed to assess factors affecting nurses' safety incident reporting. Multiple regression and PROCESS Model 4 revealed that perceived barriers markedly affect reporting behavior, while intention acts as a mediator between attitude or organizational silence and action. No direct effects or moderating barriers were observed; the model explained 16% of the variance. Interventions should foster positive attitudes, reduce organizational silence, and lower perceived barriers.

Overlapping identities, including race, sex, and disability, intersect with structural oppression to amplify maternal health inequities. This study uses Walker and Avant's 7-step theory analysis, examining origins, meaning, logical adequacy, usefulness, generalizability, parsimony, and testability, to evaluate intersectionality theory in pregnancy health inequities. The analysis shows the model's strengths in capturing complexity while identifying a critical gap: reproductive autonomy. The findings highlight that actual progress toward maternal health equity requires intersectional, autonomy-centered approaches in research, policy, and practice to ensure all pregnant women have the power and resources to make autonomous reproductive choices.

Genre-focused pedagogy is a teaching approach that encourages students to compare communication styles across different professional disciplines. Experimenting with a strategy to build critical consciousness and prepare doctoral students for interdisciplinary scholarship, faculty used ChatGPT to generate texts reflecting communication styles in nursing, medicine, policy, and social science journals. A student analyzed how the same content was approached differently. The exercise highlighted diversity in word choice, sentence structure, and strategies for signaling status, framing problems, and centering particular forms of disciplinary authority. AI tools can be used to build understanding of disciplinary epistemologies, language norms, and power in scholarly communication.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) inequities among midlife women in the U.S. arise from intersecting determinants across individual, interpersonal, community, and societal levels. This paper introduces the Kidney Health Inequities among Midlife Women Minority Group (KH-MWMG) Theory, a situation-specific theory (SST) developed using an integrative approach. The KH-MWMG theory illustrates how socio-ecological factors interact to influence CKD risks and outcomes over the life course. The KH-MWMG theory provides a structured framework to address CKD inequities. The SST needs to be further developed through its actual application in nursing research and practice with various minority groups of this specific population.

The literature on self-care in people living with an ostomy pouch is expanding rapidly, yet a guiding theoretical framework remains lacking. This article aims to present the development of a situation-specific theory of self-care in people living with an ostomy pouch, encompassing both intestinal (colostomy and ileostomy) and urinary (urostomy) diversions. We describe the process of ostomy self-care, the key predictors of self-care behaviors, and their outcomes. Underlying assumptions and theoretical propositions are also outlined. Self-care includes actions directed toward maintaining the physiological stability of the stoma (maintenance), detecting complications (monitoring), and responding to them (management). Factors influencing ostomy self-care include self-efficacy and cultural context. Predictors of self-care may be sociodemographic, psychological, or clinical. Outcomes are categorized as clinical or psychosocial. A total of 9 theoretical propositions are proposed. This situation-specific theory offers a framework for understanding the multifaceted nature of self-care engagement in people living with an ostomy pouch. Future research should refine the theory by testing its propositions and assessing its applicability across diverse populations and health care settings.

We adopted a meta-theoretical approach, including conceptual analysis. A purposive sampling, obtained from a literature search, provided insights into what is known, or unclear. While medical diagnoses focus mostly on etiological aspects, nursing diagnoses focus more on care. We identified suffering, adaptation, and biopsychosocial conditions as essential requirements for the concept's ontological status. To enhance practice, nursing diagnoses demand clinical thinking, logical reasoning and causal hypotheses. Both procedures in medicine and nursing are critical in delivering adequate health care and collaboration.
