Nurses regularly use the patient's clinical history and we interact through it with multi and interdisciplinary team with the purpose of providing comprehensive care to the elderly. We make professional use of personal patient information with this interaction, as well we generate the nursing care plan and nursing records. We also perform comprehensive geriatric assessment and other specific registers aimed at elderly care, which have a clear impact on patient health care. The progress and regulatory complexity on the use of medical history, new strategies of the relationship in the context of care, based on bioethics, as well as the active role of nurses in the creation of information, makes necessary to review the ethical and legal issues surrounding this document, in this case, in elderly patients.

Administering treatments in patients with malignancies must be performed by nursing professionals with experience and knowledge of the pathology being treated, drugs, techniques and devices used for administration. The implantation of a venous access device with subcutaneous reservoir offers the possibility of multiple and long-term frequent injections and also blood extraction from a less invasive way. They are aesthetically more acceptable than external catheters, they have a lower risk of accidental release and infection, they require less care and they allow extra-hospital treatment. Another advantage to consider is that they cause less limitations in daily life, which is associated with an increased quality of life. Placement of devices with camera of brachial location, was done by the first time by venotomy technique with many doubts; however, the results of placement success and the decreased complications, improved significantly when the placement began performing by vascular radiology services using fluoroscopy and ultrasound. Particularly striking is the success rate (between 99% and 100%) with a 0% rate of placement complications (hemorrhage, pneumothorax). The infection rate is not flashy, remaining within normal parameters in relation to the pectoral systems. The rates of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) are assumable and they are consistent with other related studies. These devices are particularly useful in patients with abnormalities of chest wall such as dermal carcinoma and tumor shell in patients with breast cancer (tumour the bottom shell). And also when there are open wounds in the chest area, such as tracheotomy or fibrosis caused by radiation therapy, or in the presence of scars of flaps after surgery in head and neck cancer (or when it is expected that the patient will receive this surgery), severe kyphosis, obese patients and patients with respiratory failure.

Cardiac catheterization consists in the introduction of a catheter through a peripheral arterial access (radial, femoral, brachial or cubital approach) directed to the heart, in order to study its anatomy or function, the presence coronary artery disease, and perform coronary interventions if indicated. Radial artery is our first option approach for cardiac catheterization. Once the study is finished, the catheter is removed from the arterial access and the puncture site is compressed to obtain hemostasis with a Tensoplast® compressive bandage. Based in our previous experience with the use of Nobecutan® aerosol in femoral bandage, we decided to extend it to the radial access. Our goal is to explore the Nobecutan® impact in puncture site cutaneous protection, where radial bandage is placed. Results show a reduction in dermatological lesion rate after removing the bandage especially in patients under antiplatelet therapy and in those with previous dermatological lesion secondary to skin shaving rounding puncture site.

OBJECTIVES: To describe the opinion of nurses about a non-specialized in hospital to support team called Equipo de Complemento (EC), evaluate the perception of other nurses about their need of additional formation -since those nurses are responsible for the cardiac arrest call-, and define the opinion of other staff about their knowledge and satisfaction about this duty. METHODOLOGY: This is a cross-sectional study performed from May of 2014 to February 2015. Data was collected through an anonymous poll, which was given to the hospital nursery professionals with more than 5 years of service. the respondents were not taking part in EC. RESULTS: "the 80% of the respondents think of EC as a hospital service of identity with self-organization. A 94% believe that EC is really necessary, and 96% of the respondents know that the cardiac arrest nurse is a member of EC, and they rate these nurses with a high degree of satisfaction. CONCLUSION: The EC is seen as a needed model with self-identity, composed of trained professionals. The hospital professionals of Nursery are really satisfied with their job. EC take part in other tasks as cardiac arrests and are highly rated for this duty.

INTRODUCTION: Understanding how a person lives with chronic illness is necessary to provide care according to the individual's needs. Nowadays, there is no validated scale to measure how the person is living with a chronic condition, such as Parkinson's disease. OBJECTIVES: The objectives were to: 1) define the concept of Living with a chronic illness; 2) design a measuring scale of the degree of Living with a chronic illness, in particular with Parkinson's disease. METHODOLOGY: Two methodological steps were carried out. Regarding the first methodological step, a concept analysis of Living with a chronic illness was done using Rodgers' evolutionary method. the second methodological step was the design of the scale, following DeVellis guideline. RESULTS: Through the concept analysis it was identified that Living with a chronic illness is a complex, dynamic, cyclic and multidimensional process, involving the attributes of Acceptance, Coping, Self-management, Integration and Adjustment. In relation to the design of the scale, it was developed a self-reported measure, with five Likert response options and 27 items. CONCLUSIONS: The designed scale, is an innovative measure with a high potential interest in clinical community to identify with are the factor(s) that make the person have a positive or negative living with the disease. Consequently, nurses could intervene in a holistic way, according to the patient individual needs.

OBJECTIVES: The main objective of the study was to confirm the infant massage benefits noticed by mothers. As for secondary objectives, the aim was to establish the sociodemographic characteristics of the mothers who practice the infant massage at home and the main type of feeding. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Longitudinal descriptive study which included the mothers who came to the infant massage workshop in a Primary Care Centre in León, with a sample composed of 49 mothers. Data were4 collected from February 2014 to February 2015. A questionnaire designed for this study was given, which contained: sociodemographic characteristics (mothers' age, studies and ethnic group), benefits of the infant massage, if they did it at home and if the couple came to the workshop. For the statistical analysis, the software manager SPSS.13. was used. RESULTS: The main noticed benefits were increasing mother-child bond and relaxation, with a 95.9% of positive answer, followed by the increasing of the sleep quality, in a 65.3%. Less crying and decreasing of the colic had a 63.3%. Most of the mothers, 93.3%, did the massage at home. The main type of feeding was breast-feeding, 53.1%. CONCLUSIONS: Mother noticed the benefits of the infant massage and they do it at home.

BASES: The prescription based on the active ingredients has fostered the rise of generic drugs, increasing the variety of presentations, which can cause confusion, mistakes and encourage the medication nonadherence. The elderly may be at higher risk due to associated comorbidities and polymedication. OBJECTIVES: To assess recognition of the medication and adherence to medical prescription in elderly patients with changes in their medication appearance. METHODOLOGY: Descriptive cross-sectional study of a sample made by recruitment in Primary Health Care. We performed structured interviews to 96 patients over 65 years: we evaluated the adherence to medical prescription through the Morisky-Green test and we assessed the ability to recognize the medication by a discrimination test using drug boxes. RESULTS: 99% of the patients (CI95% 94.3-99.8%) reported never to fail in taking their medication. 84.4% (CI95% 75.8-90%) recognized their medication without errors, 67.7% (CI95% 57.8-76.2% recognized the correct active ingredient and 56.2% (CI95% 46.3-65.7%) the right amount of active ingredient. A higher level of recognition was found in women, patients with a superior education level and those without polymedication (p < 0.05). Half of the patients (51%; CI95% 41.2-60.8%) showed adherence to medical prescription, but we found no significant relationship with the socio-demographic variables or the degree of recognition of the medication. CONCLUSIONS: High rate of lack of adherence to drug therapy, but similar to other publications. The education level influences the recognition of the medication, while polymedication has a negative effect. The wrong appreciation by patients considering that they take appropriately their medication contrasts with the real data, and should be taken into consideration.

The prevalence found is worrying. In the girls in school 12 to 21 years, it seems to suffer from a 4-5% ED (diagnosed by a psychiatrist). This work intends to reflect, through a clinical case, the nursing care performed in a unit of child and adolescent psychiatry users admitted with diagnosis of anorexia nervosa. The teenager joined the unit with a diagnosis of anorexia nervosa. Initially, an evaluation is performed by the functional patterns of Gordon, later to identify areas on which it will act and state the principal diagnoses, with their respective objectives and interventions. The nursing care at the Adolescent Psychiatry Unit is paramount. Nurses are the ones that are in constant contact with patients and limiting these behaviors. They also act as confessors and maintain a close relationship with them.

The oral health is a fundamental component of the health of the people, being its care a vital aspect of nursing. A frequent and unknown oral health problem is xerostomia, a condition that affects between 10% and 38% of the population and which is defined as the subjective experience of dry mouth. With this article we are looking forward to learn the difference based on evidence-interventions that as nurses we can perform in the care of the patient suffering from xersotomia. The management of xerostomia is based in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of the disease, using diverse farmalogical and no farmalogical measures, like salivary stimulants and substitutes and cholinergic drugs. The xerostomia has a big impact in the patient, being necessary a bigger research of the subject, in which the nursing has to play a lead role.

Currently, epidural analgesia is considered the most used method for pain management during labor, but this technique could have side effects. There are non-pharmacological methods that can be used alternatively or in synergy with epidural analgesia, without adverse effects on maternal and fetal outcomes. These methods include transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). TENS is a physiotherapy technique particularly suitable for the dilation period, during the first state of labor, and while women do not perceive a very intense pain. The use in childbirth is recent and controversial. Despite being well received by women and midwives, their effectiveness has not been clearly demonstrated. Organizations such as the Spanish Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics and the Department of Health, consider this therapy an inefficient non-pharmacological mechanism for pain relief in the active stage of labor. Women should have the option to choose any pain relief method in any stage of their process. Health professionals are the responsible to know, investigate and work with these different methods, offering to pregnant women, adequate information, which must be based on scientific evidence.

INTRODUCTION: W know that non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is a basic ventilator support, but sometimes it fails, because of intolerance, lack of adherence, breach, etc. How can we anticipate that failure? We intend to explore the qualitative evidence on the experiences of people with this treatment and their formal and informal caregivers. METHOD: Systematic literature review of original articles indexed from 2005 to 2015, which study the NIV in adult population with qualitative methodology in six databases. Peer review of scientific quality with tool of the CASPe Program. Qualitative metasynthesis of the findings. RESULTS: 15 articles met selection criteria, based on Grounded Theory and Phenomenology, which use interviews, observation and focus group, directed both patients, and families and health professionals. Its studies emphasize the feeling of anxiety and loss of control, although the NIV relieves them dyspnea (ambivalence). Search daily well-being through routines and active participation. Interaction dependence/autonomy, especially in decision-making, finding differences that make complex the process information and advance directives. Practical wisdom of nursing care 24 hours with patients id described basic, and difficulties being narrated: lack of time, overload of work, technocentrism, inexperience. CONCLULSIONS: The qualitative evidence of treatment with VNI is varied although scarce; different plots (acute situations, chronic, terminals) are explored, from different points of view. The integration of these findings in our practice will help us to increase adherence and become the treatment successful, but especially to improve the quality of life of ventilated patients and their families.

Information and communications technology (ICT) is implemented in health systems. However, the current economic situation raises questions regarding how the health system will evolve in a context of widespread use of ICT, but with sustainability problems. "Beside sustainability and consolidation, now a days, the challenge is the integration of information and in which care level and who among health professionals should lead this step forward in health care. All this represents a major change of mindset for users of health systems, and the need to integrate all health care, working more transversely, with the aim of achieve more health care continuity and provide better quality in health care of the citizen.

INTRODUCTION: Family it's a unit which is characterized by the relationship between its members, the interdependence between them in health, presupposes that care will be more efficient if targeted the family system as a unit. In that fact the impact of illness and hospitalization drives the nursing staff to include the family in health care. Nurses think their relationship with families is not easy, which generates different attitudes towards them and present the possibility to allow its participation in care. The aim of this research was to analyze the attitudes of these professionals in the family involvement in patients care. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional study was applied to the nursing staff in Pediatric Department of the University General Hospital Gregorio Maranon (HGUGM), in Madrid, Spain. The data was collected using the "Families' Importance in nursing care: Nurse's attitude scale". RESULTS: Most of the professionals, mostly units of patients with chronic disease, take into consideration the family like a resource in nursing care, finding that a good relationship with families give them job satisfaction, without differences between categories. More than half of the professionals from the units of pediatric intensive care (PICU) considered that the presence of the family generates stress. CONCLUSIONS: The difference in the attitude of professionals is related to the time they spent with families and technification of the care.

It interferes with normal development of children. Its impact transcends childhood to appear in adolescence and adulthood. Diagnosis would be developed if the child shows the main symptoms of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity, with consequences in different aspects of daily life, such as academic achievements, family life or social interactions with other children. These symptoms will come up along life in different ways. When the child is young, hyperactivity and impulsivity prevail, but as he/she grows, the dispersion and difficulty to remember things and facts will become more evident. The aim of the study was to assess with the Vanderbilt scale, based on DSM-IV diagnostic criteria, the differences of the impact of ADHD among parents, in comparison to the medical diagnosis. A retrospective study was carried out by using this questionnaire, which completed by both parents individually. A total of 78 children took part in this study, all of them diagnosed with ages ranging from 6 to 16 years old, who attended to Neuropedriatics at VAlle del Nalón Hospital(Asturias), between October 2011 and March 2013. Regarding attention deficit, the average responses given by mothers (7.38 ± 1.81) was higher than that offered by fathers (647 ± 2/46). The same is true for hyperactivity/impulsivity, with average scores of mothers (5.80 ± 2.90) which were one positive response higher than those given by male patients (4.74 ± 3.04). Mothers show a higher percentage of agreement with the medical diagnosis (86.3%) when the child was a girl and 66% with boys, whereas for fathers the percentage of agreement was less than 50% female children and 44.6% for male children.

The advancement and consolidation of information and communications technologies (ICT) has favored electronic medical records as the link between the clinical and patient health information. Appropriate use of ICT can improve and ensure coordination between different health professionals and levels of care. The aim of ICT is to facilitate the continuum of care and foster care efficiency and quality. However, professionals should make appropriate use of ICT based primarily on non-maleficence and confidentiality. The ICT: 1. Improve care continuity. 2. Facilitate integration and coordination, in order to provide personalized and excellent care between different levels of care. 3. Reduce health costs (in patients of high complexity, for example). The ICT facilitate the non-contact care, spacing the time between visits. The disadvantage of ICT are related to confidentiality and depersonalization of patient care. Nurses, by using ICT, play a leading role, given its role in health promotion and disease prevention. In these contexts, ICT can help innovate and improve the quality of care and health outcomes. In this regard, nurses have a great opportunity to innovate in care and take leadership in remote monitoring of patients. ICT have created new professionals, patients and providers challenges that should be studied in order to minimize problems and seek solutions. Social networks are useful for refining and deepening the relationship between nurses and patients, disseminating nursing research among nurses and nurse visibility.

SUMMARY: The use of mixed methods to address health problems generates more knowledge of reality to get a more complete analysis of the problem under investigation. This is based on the fact that answers to the questions posed are as subjective as the individuals themselves. In that way, it is necessary quantitative and qualitative data for comprehensiveness (a more realistic and comprehensive approach to the object of the study). OBJECTIVE: Reflect on this methodology through a practical example. SYNTHESIS: We explain, through Participatory Education Program Focused on Colorectal Cancer Surgery Patient (mixed methods research project: multistrand, sequential and mixed in each of its three phases), what is this methodology and its advantages. The second phase of the study emerges from the results of the first one, and so on. At the end of the study a metaresult, that gives meaning and response to the study in its entirety, arises. CONCLUSION: Despite the challenges, mixed methods gives us a more accurate perspective of the phenomenon of study; it helps us to formulate the problem statement and the most appropriate way to study it; and finally, the scientific inferences obtained are more solidly supported.
