BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Recent studies have suggested potential links between dermatological conditions, dyslipidemia, and cardiovascular health, yet the relationship between serum lipids and rosacea remains uncertain. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Utilizing data from UK Biobank, we employed Cox proportional hazard models to evaluate the correlation between rosacea and serum lipids, with mediation analysis further elucidating the underlying mechanisms. Additionally, two-sample Mendelian randomization and linkage disequilibrium score regression were performed to determine the genetic association. RESULTS: In both the blood biochemistry cohort and the nuclear magnetic resonance metabolome cohort, higher levels of total cholesterol, LDL, and cholesterol in large LDL were inversely associated with rosacea (HR = 0.90 [0.85-0.95], 0.91 [0.86-0.96], and 0.90 [0.85-0.95], respectively). Additionally, omega-3 was found to potentially reduce the risk of rosacea by increasing cholesterol levels in large LDL (OR = 0.88 [0.82-0.94]; mediated proportion = 61.56%). Mendelian randomization analyses further supported the protective effects of total cholesterol and cholesterol in large LDL against rosacea (OR = 0.70 [0.55-0.89] and 0.79 [0.62-0.99], respectively). CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that higher levels of total cholesterol and cholesterol in large LDL may decrease rosacea risk, while omega-3 could influence rosacea pathogenesis through modulation of cholesterol in large LDL.

The present Part 2 of the updated German S3 guideline on the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris provides recommendations for therapy selection in special clinical situations and in the presence of comorbidities. A major focus of this update is the chapter on screening for tuberculosis as well as therapy selection and management in latent tuberculosis. The recommendations regarding the use of interferon-gamma release assays and the indication for chest radiography have been extensively revised. In addition, the guidance on the suitability of systemic psoriasis therapies in patients with latent tuberculosis and on the need for preventive antituberculous treatment has been thoroughly updated. In the chapter on inflammatory bowel diseases, risankizumab and guselkumab have been added as recommended treatment options, as both agents have recently been approved for the indications Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Further substantial revisions are included in the chapters on patients with a history of malignancy and viral hepatitis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Chemotherapy-induced alopecia, encompassing both acute reversible alopecia and its persistent form, significantly impacts patients' quality of life but remains inadequately addressed. This study aimed to compare dermatologists' and oncologists' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding chemotherapy-induced alopecia, as well as their awareness of scalp cooling as a preventive intervention. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Israel at nine tertiary medical centers using a structured questionnaire to assess knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to chemotherapy-induced alopecia, including separately analyzed persistent chemotherapy-induced alopecia and scalp cooling. Responses from dermatologists and oncologists were compared, and factors influencing knowledge scores were identified. RESULTS: Both groups demonstrated limited knowledge. Oncologists scored higher on acute chemotherapy-induced alopecia (mean 3.88 vs. 2.74, p < 0.001), while dermatologists tended to score higher on persistent chemotherapy-induced alopecia (mean 7.85 vs. 6.92, p = 0.063). Male participants scored lower than female participants (p = 0.050). Oncologists were more familiar with scalp cooling, citing cost and logistical issues as significant barriers; dermatologists emphasized the need for proactive care and education. CONCLUSIONS: Significant knowledge gaps and differing practices between dermatologists and oncologists underscore the importance of targeted educational initiatives and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve patient care.
