The purpose of study was to determine whether mentoring based on Watson's Caring Model positively influences nurse practitioner (NP) job satisfaction. This nonexperimental mixed-methods study utilized an online survey, administered through Qualtrics containing demographic and mentoring variables. Job satisfaction results were obtained from the Misener Nurse Practitioner Job Satisfaction Scale (MNPJSS). Also, open-ended questions regarding mentoring were reported. There was a 54% response rate in which 37 of the 69 participants responded (n = 37), with statistical significance set at p < .05. All or 100% of participants reported that the mentor experience/relationship positively influenced job satisfaction. Scores from the MNPJSS ranged from 141 to 246, with a mean of 195.26 (SD = 28.29) corresponding to "minimally satisfied" or a mean of 4.44 on the 6-point scale. These results are similar to the MNPJSS score with a mean of 4.39. A mentoring experience can provide a positive environment, which can lead to increased job satisfaction. In turn, a higher level of satisfaction in the work environment can be associated with reduced turnover and improved retention and patient outcomes. Ultimately, a safer health care system will evolve and improve patient care and outcomes. Through Watson's Caring Model, a reciprocal relationship between the mentor and the mentee can provide a new NP hire a sense of community and direct availability. By experiencing a mentor relationship, job satisfaction can improve, which is a key factor in retaining NPs. As E-mentoring is a newer topic in nursing literature, further research is needed. Further studies could also review and develop one-on-one mentoring programs.

Patients frequently access online resources for medical information. The National Institutes of Health and the American Medical Association recommend that to be understood by the average American, patient information should be presented at or below the sixth to seventh academic grade level. The popularity of rhytidectomy (facelift) is rising, and providers are frequently using the Internet to attract patients. All rhytidectomy information provided by 100 private practice Web sites in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, and Phoenix was analyzed using Readable.io software. The information was also assessed using the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level, Gunning-Fog Index, Coleman-Liau Index, Simple Measure of Gobbledygook, Automated Readability Index, Flesch Reading Ease Score, and Fry Reading Graph tools. Analyzed material was written at a higher academic grade level than recommended for the average American. The overall average grade level was 10.99 ± 1.39. Online patient education materials about rhytidectomy provided by private practice clinics in 5 major cities of the United States were written at academic grade levels above the National Institutes of Health and American Medical Association recommended levels. This may lead to rhytidectomy patients having unrealistic or inaccurate expectations related to their surgical procedure.

Epidemiological and descriptive research on malignant wounds (MWs) is scarce. The objective of this study was to identify the prevalence of MWs and analyze the characteristics and associated factors of MWs in hospitalized patients at an oncological institution. An epidemiological, cross-sectional, and descriptive study, which was derived from a larger study that collected data on the prevalence of different types of wounds in 341 adults hospitalized in a large oncological hospital, was conducted. The present study comprehensively analyzed data related to MWs. Information was obtained through participant interviews, physical examination, and medical record review. The study was approved by the ethics committee of the institution where the study was conducted. Fourteen MWs were identified in 13 patients, who were primarily married (58%) and men (75%), with a mean age of 60.5 ± 15.1 years. Malignant wounds were predominantly located in the head and neck region (43%) and classified as 1N (50%) according to the Staging of Malignant Cutaneous Wounds instrument. Malignant wounds were characterized as painful (83.3%), with significant pain present during dressing changes (93%). The presence of MWs was associated with the use of antidepressants (odds ratio [OR] = 4.95; p = .012), upper-limb edema (OR = 8.39; p = .003), and infection (OR = 12.16; p = .051). The prevalence of MWs in hospitalized patients was 3.8%. Associated clinical variables were related to the degree of disease progression. This information provides evidence of the need for research identifying and investigating nursing interventions for patients with MW to assist with pain control during dressing changes.

Chronic venous disease manifested as ulcers in the lower limb is a highly prevalent pathology in our population. Antiseptics and dressings designed to improve epithelialization are often used to cure the ulcer during outpatient therapy. Despite careful management, sometimes ulcers do not respond to treatment. In this report, we discuss the antiseptic and potentially immunomodulatory effects of the amniotic membrane as a biological dressing for the treatment of venous ulcers refractory to conventional therapy.

Objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the autolytic debridement promoted by hydrogel with sodium alginate enriched with fatty acids and vitamins A and E in the healing of foot wounds in diabetic patients. A clinical study was conducted at an outpatient clinic of medical specialties. The sample comprised 8 patients supervised for a 3-month period, from April to July 2017, by means of a clinical history, photographic record, planimetry, and classification of the wound severity by the Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing (PUSH) system. Of the 8 patients supervised, 1 dropped out and 7 were followed up for 12 weeks. Only 2 had complete wound healing, but all presented a reduction of the lesion area of approximately 22.2% and PUSH score of 9.8 to 6.6. This study found that hydrogel showed good results for the treatment of diabetic feet, reducing the area and overall PUSH score of the wounds.

Lipedema is a fat disorder that is often misdiagnosed. It was first identified at the Mayo Clinic in 1940, but medical schools do not include it in their curriculum and is therefore poorly understood. It presents as disproportionate and symmetrical accumulations of fat (bilateral), which is often accompanied by orthostatic edema. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial, as the disease is progressive and can lead to immobility as well as a significant decrease in the quality of life. Lipedema differs from obesity because it does not respond to diet and exercise. This article gives you a glimpse into what lipedema is about and will help you identify some differences between lipedema and lymphedema. It will also help you identify which surgical procedures have been successful in treating the disease.

During the 21st century, the interest in cosmetic surgery has dramatically increased. Aesthetic plastic surgery can improve self-esteem and self-confidence, enhancing appearance, social relations, and sexual life. This study aimed to investigate the correlation of aesthetic plastic surgery with sexual, social, and romantic lives in Cyprus. Questionnaire data from 128 cosmetic surgery patients, from a plastic surgery clinic in Nicosia, were obtained approximately 1 week before and 3 months after surgery. The questionnaire was developed by the authors for the purpose of this study and consisted of measures on body image, social life, relationships, and sexuality. Pre- and postoperative values were compared. The majority of participants were women (81.9%), and respondents' mean age was 35.35 years. One of 2 participants reporting had undergone breast augmentation (47.6%). One of 2 participants reported feeling self-confidence after treatment, and the majority of respondents reported a positive influence in all 3 realms: sex life (54.7%), social life (64.4%), and romantic relationship (49.5%). Those who underwent breast augmentation were 4 times more likely to report that their sex life had been positively affected than those who did not undergo breast augmentation. The study provides evidence of improvement in an individual's satisfaction with his or her body image and self-confidence after cosmetic surgery. The study demonstrates the positive impact of cosmetic surgery to social life and relationships, especially breast augmentation surgery to sexuality.
