However, a sustainable therapeutic approach has not been established yet. Therefore, the present study was designed to evaluate the impact of normabaric hyperoxia treatment (NBOT) on striatum associated Locomotor Activity (LA) in IntelliCage after Fluid-Percussion Injury (FPI). Animals were divided in four groups: Group I control (n=24), Group II sham (n=24), Group III FPI (n=24) and Group IV FPI with NBOT (n=24). Animals were habituated in IntelliCage for 4 days following transponder implanted in mice neck region on day 5. Then the LA of all groups was assessed 6hr daily for 5 days before inducing FPI. On day 6, cannula was implanted on the striatum, on day 7 FPI was performed in Group III (kept in normal environment) and IV (immediately exposed to NBOT for 3 hr). LA (in terms of number of visits in all four corners) was assessed 6 hr at days 1, 7, 14, 21 and 28 following FPI. After the animals were sacrificed to study the neuronal damage, dopamine receptors and transporters expression in striatum. The results suggested that the LA of FPI impaired mice as compared to the control and sham showed less number of visits in all four corners in IntelliCage. Morphological results revealed that FPI induced neuronal damage as compared to sham and control. Dopamine receptors and transporters were down regulated in the FPI group as compared to the control. Immediate exposure to NBOT improved LA in terms of increased number of visits in all four corners, reduced number of cell death and improved receptor expression as compared to FPI. In conclusion, NBOT exposure could improve the LA of mice following FPI through prevention of neuronal damage, improved dopamine receptors and transporters.

Three FVII abnormalities, FVII Padua (Arg304Gln), FVII Nagoya (Arg304Trp) and FVII Shinjo or Tondabayshi (Arg79Gln) show different FVII activity according to the tissue Tissue Factor (TF) used in the assay system (rabbit brain, human placenta or human recombinant and ox brain). OBJECTIVES: To investigate the possible existence of common conformational changes with regard to different tissue factors in these three FVII variants. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Crystal structure analysis and "visual inspection" of FVII were deeply performed to select a crystallographic template for the in silico mutagenesis procedure of FVII Arg79Gln, Arg304Gln and Arg304Trp.100ns 300K NVT large-scale molecular dynamics simulation on GPU were applied to the models of FVII. The aims of this run was to describe at molecular level the influence of the mutation on the protein structure and function. RESULTS: The molecular modelling of those three variants has shown common features in spite of the different location of the mutation involved (the first epidermal growth factor for the Arg79Gln and the catalytic region for the Arg304Gln or Arg304Trp). Molecular dynamics studies have shown in fact that the mutant FVII, shows a decreased flexibility or freezing of the protein conformation of FVIIa with regard to TF. This results in the formation of a defective FVIIa-TF complex that justifies the different clotting results observed in these variants according to the TF used. CONCLUSIONS: The conformational studies may supply useful information on the structure- function relation of clotting factors.

This study was aimed to determine the socio-demographic, clinical and behavioral characteristics associated...BACKGROUND: Little is known about the epidemiology of suicide attempts among psychiatric outpatients in Mexico. This study was aimed to determine the socio-demographic, clinical and behavioral characteristics associated with suicide attempts in psychiatric outpatients in two public hospitals in Durango, Mexico. METHODS: Two hundred seventy six psychiatric outpatients (154 suicide attempters and 122 patients without suicide attempt history) attended the two public hospitals in Durango City, Mexico were included in this study. Socio-demographic, clinical and behavioral characteristics were obtained retrospectively from all outpatients and compared in relation to the presence or absence of suicide attempt history. RESULTS: Increased prevalence of suicide attempts was associated with mental and behavioral disorders due to psychoactive substance use (F10-19) (P=0.01), schizophrenia, schizotypal and delusional disorders (F20-29) (P=0.02), mood (affective) disorders (F30-39) (P<0.001), and disorders of adult personality and behavior (F60-69) (P<0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that suicide attempts were associated with young age (OR=1.21, 95% CI: 1.06-1.39; P=0.003), female gender (OR=2.98, 95% CI: 1.55-5.73; P=0.001), urban residence (OR=2.31, 95% CI: 1.17-4.57; P=0.01), memory impairment (OR=1.91, 95% CI: 1.07-3.40; P=0.02), alcohol consumption (OR=2.39, 95% CI: 1.21-4.70; P=0.01), and sexual promiscuity (OR=3.90, 95% CI: 1.74-8.77; P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: We report the association of suicide attempts with socio-demographic, clinical and behavioral characteristics in psychiatric outpatients in Mexico. Results may be useful for an optimal planning of preventive measures against suicide attempts in psychiatric outpatients.

The levels of DBH activity, its coenzyme (ascorbic acid) and cofactor (Cu(++)) and other biochemical parameters were measured in the serum of 32 arsenicosis patients of Bangladesh at three different age groups, namely, group 1 (10-18 years, 9 patients), group 2 (19-40 years, 14 patients) and group 3 (41-70 years, 9 patients) of the locality of Stadium Para of Meherpur district of Bangladesh. The values were compared with the same number of age-matched normal healthy individuals of the respective group. DBH activity was markedly decreased in the patients of group 1 as compared to that of the normal healthy people. The activities of DBH were decreased to lesser extents for the other two age groups. The total protein contents in the serum of arsenicosis patients were also significantly low as compared to that in the age-matched control groups. The levels of ascorbic acid and copper were found to be decreased in the serum of arsenicosis patients. The serum glucose levels were elevated in arsenicosis patients, as compared to that of the respective healthy controls. Other parameters, such as zinc and vitamin A levels were also decreased in the serum of arsenicosis patients. It was evident from the results of drinking of the arsenic contaminated water of shallow tube wells that the levels of DBH activity decreased significantly as compared to the control healthy persons. The levels of proteins, ascorbic acid, copper, zinc and vitamin A were decreased in the serum of people drinking the arsenic contaminated tube wells water as compared to that in the control healthy people with the exception that the levels of glucose were elevated in the serum of these patients. The pathophysiological significance of the results could be correlated with the decreased in proteins and that in DBH activities as DBH deficiency is characterized by lack of sympathetic noradrenergic function.The general physiologic findings of autonomic function indicate that complete DBH deficiency include minimal or absent plasma norepinephrine and epinephrine.

CA requires a prolonged period of speech intervention. Some scaffolding strategies can be useful for correcting placement and manner of articulation in these cases. The purpose of this paper was to study whether the use of specific strategies of speech pathology can be more effective if applied according to the level of severity of CA. Ninety patients with CA were studied in two groups. One group was treated using strategies specific for their level of severity of articulation, whereas in the other group all strategies were used indistinctively. The degree of severity of CA was compared at the end of the speech intervention. After the speech therapy intervention, the group of patients in which the strategies were used selectively, showed a significantly greater decrease in the severity of CA, as compared with the patients in whom all the strategies were used indistinctively. An assessment of the severity of CA can be useful for selecting the strategies, which can be more effective for correcting the compensatory errors.

Another index is plasma amino...BACKGROUND: The high prevalence of protein-energy malnutrition is a critical issue for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Serum albumin is the most commonly used nutritional marker. Another index is plasma amino acid (AA) profile. Of these, the plasma levels of glutamine, glutamate and homocysteine, correlate well with nutritional status. We measured some plasma AAs in children with different stages CKD to provide information in monitoring the therapeutic strategy, particularly in AA supplementary therapy or protein restriction. METHODS: Three amino acids were evaluated along with albumin and high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in 30 patients with advanced CKD stages 4 and 5. They were divided into two groups undergoing conservative treatment (CT) (n=15) or hemodialysis (HD) (n=15). An additional group of patients with nephrotic syndrome [CKD stage 2] was also studied to assess the alterations of plasma free amino acids with the early stage of CKD. Another 30 age- and sex-matched healthy children served as controls. RESULTS: A significant increase in plasma concentration of amino acid glutamine was observed in children with advanced CKD stages 4 and 5 when compared with controls (P=0.02).Plasma glutamine level was significantly higher in ESRD children on HD than in children with nephrotic syndrome (P=0.02). We did not find a significant difference between HD children and CT children as regard to glutamine level. Notable differences were in the plasma homocysteine level detected in the CKD groups patients, which was greater than that in controls (P=0.0001). Plasma homocysteine level was significantly higher in children on HD than in children with nephrotic syndrome (P=0.01). A significant differences was observed in hs-CRP levels between the CKD groups and the controls (P=0.04). Albumin levels were lower in CKD groups than in controls (p=0.01). Glutamine showed significant positive correlations with blood urea level (r=0.84, P=0.002) and blood ammonia level (r=0.72, P=0.0001). On multiple linear regression, urea was the only variable independently associated with an elevated plasma glutamine level (Beta=0.77, P=0.02). CONCLUSION: This study indicates that the advanced stages of CKD are associated with increased plasma concentrations of glutamine and homocysteine. Glutamine retained in the plasma of children with CRF, possibly producing higher levels of the waste products (urea and NH3). Dialysis alone is insufficient to redress completely the abnormalities in AA metabolism in ESRD children. Careful consideration of dialysis and dietary measures are necessary.

This study seeks to document the outco...BACKGROUND: Similar to global trends, laparoscopic appendectomy has gained favor across the Caribbean but there is a paucity of published data evaluating its outcomes in the region. This study seeks to document the outcomes of laparoscopic appendectomies performed by community surgeons in a low volume setting in the Caribbean. METHODS: Data were recorded prospectively from all consecutive laparoscopic appendectomies performed from June 1, 2006 to May 30, 2011. Complicated appendicitis was considered present when the appendix was gangrenous, perforated, phlegmonous and/or associated with a peri-appendiceal abscess. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 19. RESULTS: Appendectomies were performed by one of three surgeons in 167 patients (mean case volume 11 cases per surgeon per year) at mean age of 31.8 ±9.67 years and mean BMI of 29.3 ± 2.59 Kg/m(2). There was a 14% negative appendectomy rate. Of 143 patients with confirmed appendicitis, 73% were uncomplicated cases and 24% were complicated appendicitis. The mean operating time was 50.1 ±18.4 minutes for uncomplicated cases and 98.8 ±21.6 minutes for complicated appendicitis. The overall morbidity rate was 4.2% (1.8% morbidity in uncomplicated cases and 14.7% for complicated appendicitis. Post-operatively, 69% patients required no supplemental parenteral opioids. After discharge, 7% patients required no oral analgesia and 90% stopped their analgesics within 48 hours. CONCLUSIONS: Laparoscopic appendectomy is a safe operation when performed by community surgeons at low volumes and should be considered as a part of the surgical armamentarium.

The percentage recovery of the extracts was 19.17%, 18.10% and 18.80% for hot water, ethanol and acetone respectively. Phytochemical screening of the extracts was also determined. Qualitative phytochemical screening showed that the plant extracts contained steroids, tannins, flavonoids and cardiac glycosides, while alkaloids, phlobatannin, terpenoids and anthraquinones were absent. Only ethanolic extract did not possess saponins. Aqueous extracts of J. curcas compared most favourably with the standard antibiotics (gentamycin) on all the coliform bacteria except on K. pneumoniae and E. coli likely due to a measurably higher antibacterial activity compared to the organic extracts. The minimum inhibitory concentration of the aqueous extract ranged from 3.00 to 7.00 mg/L while minimum bactericidal concentration ranged from 4.00 to 10.00 mg/L. Aqueous extract of J. curcas could be used as antibacterial agents against diseases caused by coliforms.

Age, weight...BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the present study is to explore the assessment if the transdermal delivery of vitamin D is feasible. METHODS: In 50 female Medical students, this study was conducted. Age, weight and height was taken, a detailed history and clinical examination was performed. Blood was drawn for 25 Hydroxy Vitamin D3 (25OHD) level. Two women had >30 ng/mL of 25OHD and was excluded from the study. The participants were divided into two groups of 24 in each arm. All participants equivocally agreed not to change their dietary habits and life style till the study was over. The study group of women were asked to apply; Top-D (Aloe Vera based- Vitamin D3) (Patency Pending) was developed at King Fahd Hospital of the University, AlKhobar with each gram of the Top-D cream delivering 5000 IU of vitamin D3. The second group used 1 gram of Aloe vera gel. The participants had no knowledge to which group they belong. A second blood sample was taken at the end of 3 months and the data was analyzed. RESULTS: The data of 48 women was available for analysis. The average age was 22.58 ± 1.95 years. The mean pre-treatment 25OHD in the study group was 12.05 ng/Ml ± 6.54 and post-treatment was 37.95 ng/mL ± 6.43 (P=0.001, CI<28.582 ). In control group pre-treatment 25OHD was 11.4 ng/mL ± 3.97 and post-treatment was 10.58ng/mL ± 3.03. CONCLUSIONS: This randomized control study shows that vitamin D3 can safely be delivered through the dermal route. This route could be exploited in treating vitamin D deficiency.

METHODS: KUNMING MICE WERE RANDOMLY DIVIDED INTO THREE GR...OBJECTIVE: To investigate the protective effect of Stauntonia chinensis polysaccharides (SCP) on carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induced acute liver injuries in mice. METHODS:KUNMING MICE WERE RANDOMLY DIVIDED INTO THREE GROUPS: the control group, the pathological model group, and the SCP group. The SCP group was further divided into three subgroups based on SCP treatment: Low dosage (50 mg/kg), medium dosage (100 mg/kg) and high dosage (200 mg/kg). After being fed for 7 days, mixed-edible-oil solution was intraperitoneally injected into the control group, while the other two groups were injected with 0.15% CCl4 mixed with mixed-edible-oil. Sera were collected from mice 24 h later to determine the activity of serum alanine transaminase (ALT). Mice were then sacrificed to prepare liver homogenate. Levels of liver malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and nitric oxide (NO) were determined. Pathological changes in livers were also analyzed. RESULTS: SCP significantly reduced the ALT activity in the serum and inhibited the decrease of serum GSH, GSH-PX and SOD and rose the levels of MDA and NO (P<0.05-0.01). This lessened the pathological damage to the liver tissues. CONCLUSION: SCP protects against CCl4-induced acute liver injuries in mice.

The cessation of the ovarian syntheses of the female sex hormones is known to cause menopause in women, and the roles of estriol (one of the most abundant estrogens) and progesterone were investigated for hepatic insulin synthesis through estriol and progesterone induced synthesis of nitric oxide in the liver cells. Type 1 Diabetic mellitus mice were prepared by alloxan treatment, Nitric oxide was determined by methemoglobin method. Insulin was determined by enzyme linked immunosorbant assay. Injection of either 3.5 µM estriol or 3.5 nM progesterone to the diabetic mice which cannot synthesize pancreatic insulin, reduced the blood glucose level from 600 mg/dl to 120 mg/dl and 500 ± 25 mg/dl to 120 ± 6 mg/dl in 6 and 10 h respectively with simultaneous increase of the plasma insulin from 0 µunits/ml to 40 µunits/ml and 0 µunits/ml to 9.5 µunits/ml in the case of estriol and progesterone respectively with stimulated NO synthesis. The inhibition of the steroids induced NO synthesis by using NAME (NG-methyl-l-arginine acetate ester) in the reaction mixture resulted in the inhibition of hepatic insulin synthesis. Use of pure NO solution in 0.9% NaCl instead of either estriol or progesterone in the reaction mixture was found to stimulate the hepatic insulin synthesis. Both estriol and progesterone might be involved in the prevention of type 1 diabetes mellitus through the hepatic insulin synthesis even when the pancreatic insulin synthesis was impaired.

We and others have reported that imbalance between angiogenic growth factors and anti-angiogenic...UNLABELLED: Parstatin, a novel protease activated receptor-1 (PAR-1) derived peptide is a potent inhibitor of angiogenesis. We and others have reported that imbalance between angiogenic growth factors and anti-angiogenic factors results in transition from compensatory cardiac hypertrophy to heart failure in a pressure overload condition. Though cardio protective role of parstatin was shown previously in ischemic cardiac injury, its role in pressure overload cardiac injury is yet to unveil. We hypothesize that supplementing anti-parstatin antibody during pressure overload condition augments angiogenesis and ameliorate left ventricular dysfunction and heart failure. To verify this, we created ascending aortic banding in mice to mimic pressure overload condition and then treated mice with anti-parstatin antibody. Left ventricular function was assessed by echocardiography and pressure-volume loop study. Angiogenic growth factors and anti-angiogenic factors along with MMP-2,-9 were evaluated by western blot and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: our results showed an improved left ventricular function in anti-parstatin treated aortic banding hearts compared to their corresponding wild type controls. Expression of angiogenic growth factor, VEGF, MMP-2 and CD31 expression was increased in treated aortic banding hearts compared to their corresponding wild type controls. Our results suggest that treating pressure overload mice with anti-parstatin antibody augments angiogenesis and ameliorates left ventricular dysfunction.

We present our first clinical experience of the use of preoperative topical hypothermia to improve muscular viability in these patients. Two hours after onset of symptoms, six 4-liter plastic bags were filled with snow and packed against the ischemic leg which was protected from frost injury by a layer of towels. After surgical revascularization four hours later muscular and neural functions in the leg were completely restored. A maximum serum myoglobin of 6500 ng/L (median 12000 ng/L in similar but untreated patients) postoperatively decreased to 1400 ng/L after 27 hours.

Recent trends in prolongation of child-bearing age have made cancer-associated preg...INTRODUCTION: Although occurrence of cancer during pregnancy is rare, it leads to high morbidity and mortality in both mother and fetus. Recent trends in prolongation of child-bearing age have made cancer-associated pregnancies more frequent than past. As yet there are few documents concerning cancer and its related treatment outcomes during pregnancy. This study aimed at describing clinical characteristics of pregnant women with cancer in the Shahid Sadoughi hospital in Yazd, Iran. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Case series were reviewed retrospectively, which included 19 pregnant women diagnosed with cancer in Shahid Sadoughi hospital from 2002 to 2012. Data collected comprised demographics, pregnancy characteristics and outcomes, type of cancer, clinical stage, treatment and oncological. RESULTS: From 17 pregnant women with cancer, 4 women had gynecologic cancers and 13 had non-gynecologic cancers. The Following tumors were observed: breast [6], acute myeloblastic leukemia [3], uterine cervix carcinoma [3], ovary [1], chronic myelogenous leukemia [1], lymphoma [1], papillary carcinoma of thyroid [1], and pseudopapillary carcinoma of pancreas [1]. The mean age of patients was 30.6 years, and the mean gestational age at diagnosis was 21.1 weeks. Surgical treatment was performed in 3 patients, 6 patients were treated by chemotherapy, and in 3 by both. DISCUSSION: Although cancer during pregnancy is uncommon, it is considered an important problem due to unsuitable maternal and fetal outcomes and lack of standard management guidelines. The drug degradation was found to be pH and t...The degradation behavior of cefquinome sulphate in alkaline medium at different temperatures was investigated using both first derivative spectrophotometric and HPLC methods. The drug degradation was found to be pH and temperature dependant. The pH-rate profile indicated a first order dependence of Kobs on [OH(-)] at pHs ranging between 9 and 11. Arrhenius plot obtained at pH 10 was linear between 65° and 100°C. The estimated activation energy of the hydrolysis was found to be 21.1 kcal mol(-1). Stability-indicating thin-layer chromatographic method for the separation of the drug and its alkaline hydrolysis product has been developed.
OBJECTIVE: To observe the lipid and the pathological changes of carotid artery smooth muscle cells in atherosclerotic rabbits, verification of Chinese herbal compound which has improve blood lipid and anti atherosclerosi...OBJECTIVE: To observe the lipid and the pathological changes of carotid artery smooth muscle cells in atherosclerotic rabbits, verification of Chinese herbal compound which has improve blood lipid and anti atherosclerosis effects, focus on ABCA1 as the key receptor which participated in reverse cholesterol transport, to study the mechanism of Chinese herbal compound (Xuemai Ning). MATERIALS AND METHODS: 30 rabbits were randomly divided into blank group, model group and Chinese herbal compound (Xuemai Ning) group, The model group and the Xuemai Ning group with high fat diet and injection of vitamin D3, causing atherosclerosis model 4 weeks after the intervention of traditional Chinese medicine group, In the 4th week after Xuemai Ning group received the intervention of Chinese herbal compound. Blood lipid, the carotid artery pathological changes and expression of ABCA1 gene and protein in peritoneal macrophage surface were detected after 8 weeks. RESULTS: The carotid artery atherosclerotic plaque formation of the model group was obvious, the carotid atherosclerotic changes of the Xuemai Ning group rabbit significantly lighter than the model group. The serum lipid of model group and Xuemai Ning group were higher than that of the blank group; and the traditional Chinese medicine can up the expression of ABCA1 protein, higher than those in the model group. Expression of macrophage ABCA1 in model group was significantly up regulated at protein level higher than the blank group; and the traditional Chinese medicine can up regulate the expression of ABCA1 protein, higher than those in the model group. Expression of ABCA1 mRNA was significantly up regulated in model group, ABCA1 mRNA of Xuemai Ning group raised more significantly. CONCLUSION: Xuemai Ning can reduce triglyceride, total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein of hyperlipidemia model in rabbits serum, increase high density lipoprotein, remove foam cells in atherosclerotic cells, improve pathological of AS and up-regulate ABCA1 gene and protein so as to effectively inhibit atherosclerotic disease.

MATERIAL AND METHODS: [corrected] In the cervico...OBJECTIVE: The present study evaluated indications' validity of cervicoscopic and microcolposcopic examination in LSIL patients with unsatisfactory or negative colposcopy. MATERIAL AND METHODS: [corrected] In the cervico-vaginal pathology unit of the "San Giovanni Calibita Fatebenefratelli" University of Rome "Tor Vergata", 119 patients with a positive cervical cytology (LSIL), were submitted to the exam for the following two indications: 1) unsatisfactory colposcopy 37 (31.1%); 2) negative colposcopy 82 (68.9%). RESULTS: Cervicoscopy allowed the SCJ visualization in 115 (9.6%) patients. In 4 patients 3.4%, the SCJ visualization was not possible due to cervical stenosis. Cervicoscopy without staining, revealed endocervical squamous columnar junction in 33 (28.7%) patients. The blue dye in panoramic view detected endocervical SCJ in 41 (35.7%), out of 115 patients (>5 mm in 34 (29.6%) patients and >10 mm in 7 (6.1%)). CONCLUSIONS: Cervicoscopic examination revealed 7.8% of CIN2-3 in LSIL patients with inadequate or negative colposcopy. In patients with negative colposcopy the percentage of undiagnosed lesions inside the cervical canal was very low. The blue dye added sensitivity to the exam.

Infertility is known as a risk factor for ovarian, breast and endometrial c...INTRODUCTION: Infertility is as an important and common problem in couples necessitating assisted reproductive technology (ART) or drug therapy. Infertility is known as a risk factor for ovarian, breast and endometrial cancer. We aimed on evaluation of the history of primary infertility and previous ART in patients with the above-mentioned cancers. MATERIAL AND METHOD: In this retrospective study we evaluated all of the risk factors in patients with breast cancer, ovarian cancer and endometrial cancers who referred to the Gynecological Oncology Clinic in Shahid Sadoughi Hospital in Yazd, Iran from 2002 to 2012. We also investigated the history of primary infertility and ART in these patients before diagnosis of cancers. RESULTS: We gathered data from 92 patients with endometrial cancer, 84 patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer and 113 patients with breast cancer. There was history of infertility in 39.1% of patients with endometrial cancer who were obese (body mass index, BMI>29) and in 18.8% of patients with endometrial cancer and normal body mass index (BMI=25-29). ART had been performed in 7.3% of all patients with endometrial cancer. In patients with epithelial ovarian cancer, infertility was diagnosed in 28.4% and ART applied in 14.1%. Clomiphene with or without HCG and HMG was the most common drug used for patients with ovarian cancer. In patients with breast cancer, there was infertility in 16.5% and ART performed in 7.3%. CONCLUSION: Although infertility was present as an important and fairly common risk factor in some patients with endometrial, ovarian and breast cancer, but some other factors may be more important, including age, BMI and the etiology of infertility. Finding the association between ART and gynecological cancers needs long cohort studies with follow-up of infertile women who get the ART or drug therapy for over 15-20 years. We think BMI and age (in addition to infertility and ART) are contributing factors for development of gynecological cancers.

RECENT FINDING: Although definite treatment of early stages of cervic...PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The aim of this study was to describe fertility preservation methods to improve quality of life of early stages of cervical cancer. RECENT FINDING: Although definite treatment of early stages of cervical cancer including stages IA,IB1 and IIA non-bulky is radial hysterectomy, this method is used in perimenopousal period in which fertility preservation is not important. Whenever fertility preservation is so important, some methods like radical trachelectomy and laparoscopic lymphadenectomy are used to rule out lymphatic metastases. SUMMARY: If any visible lesion on cervix is found, pelvic MRI is helpful and during operation, trachelectomy samples are sent for frozen section and margin study. Radical trachelectomy is done vaginal or abdominal. Overall relapse rate of cervical cancer in radical trachelectomy and radical hysterectomy is the same. Complications of radical trachelectomy include chronic vaginal discharge, abnormal uterine bleeding, dysmenorrhea, inflammation and ulcer due to cercelage, amenorrhea, cervical stenosis and pregnancy complications following trachelectomy including 2(nd) trimester abortion and premature labor following cervical prematurity.The best and preferred method of labor is cesarean section. Neoadjuant chemotherapy followed by radical trachelectomy in large cervical lesions is a suitable treatment. Ultraconservative operations like large cold knife conization, simple trachelectomy with laparoscopic lymphadenectomy and sentinel lymph node mapping are suitable for very small lesions.
