Walker and Avant's method of analysis was used to explore generalized self-doubt as well as within the context of a contemporary nursing education framework: Aller's Development of Decision-Making and Self-Efficacy Model (ADD-SEM). Results indicate that several attributes of generalized self-doubt, as a form of low psychological capital, were consistent with this construct of the ADD-SEM and should be considered as nurse educators strive to ensure new nurses are prepared for the complexity of today's health care systems.

Currently, we present our choices and experiences gained in PAICPAIR part 2, highlighting how PAICPAIR guided us as a modifiable and adaptable framework, with a particular emphasis on identifying and meeting the individual needs of our vulnerable coresearchers. This framework can be used as a methodological approach and study design in future research and inspire researchers to include patients receiving palliative care and informal caregivers-as coresearchers.

Our analysis and evaluation show th...We use Fawcett and DeSanto-Madeya's framework to critique Fisher and Fisher's information-motivation-behavioral skills model and determine its usefulness and applicability for nursing. Our analysis and evaluation show that the model is a parsimonious and useful situation-specific theory for guiding nursing research and practice because it shows good fit with the nursing context, has social and theoretical significance, and exhibits empirical and pragmatic adequacy. More consistency in using terms referring to each concept would help to improve the model's internal consistency. The model's testability could also be improved by measuring health outcomes (eg, viral load or CD4 count) in future research.

This study examin...Common conceptions of spirituality in nursing often concentrate on nurses providing spiritual care, but there is insufficient research indicating how nurses' spirituality impacts their nursing practice. This study examines how Indigenous and non-Indigenous community health nurses' experiences of spirituality, regardless of any religious affiliation, shape their nursing practice with Indigenous communities. Results indicate that spirituality is a pervasive nursing ethic manifesting respect, connectedness, love, acceptance, caring, hope, endurance, and compassion toward clients. Participants' experiences of spirituality promote self-awareness, open-mindedness, and acceptance of others and encourage participants' reflexivity, which grounds their nursing practice. Nurses' spiritual awareness fosters an appreciation for Indigenous community healing, leading to more reciprocal interactions with community members. Significantly, these participants provide care spiritually; they do not provide spiritual care.

Emp...Work-related musculoskeletal disorder is a major occupational health problem worldwide. The ecological model by Sauter and Swanson proposes a way in which psychosocial factors can influence musculoskeletal disorders. Employing Chinn and Kramer's framework, we evaluated the ecological model and found it had a specific scope for the working populations and clear concepts. This model also demonstrated high clarity, consistency, generalizability, and accessibility aligning with a nursing metaparadigm. Empirical evidence supports the applicability of the ecological model in nursing research and practices, but more research is needed for nursing-specific application.

Twenty-four articles were identified, and a constant comparison analysis discovered 3 components essential to the successful innovation: the innate characteristics of the nurse, teams, leader, workplace, and organization; the culture or environmental factors; and then the process components, which include the translation, assessment, outcome, and sustainability of an innovation. A feasibility, mixed-method design was conducted to investigate distant Reiki as a virtual healing mod...An increasing number of individuals are reporting increased stress and anxiety associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. A feasibility, mixed-method design was conducted to investigate distant Reiki as a virtual healing modality within Rogers' framework of the Science of Unitary Human Beings. Data were collected using pre- and post-distant Reiki session interviews and 2 surveys. Study findings demonstrated changes in participant pattern manifestation and statistically significant reductions in perceived stress and anxiety (P < .001). The preliminary findings support the feasibility of distant Reiki and suggest that nurses, who are Reiki practitioners, may influence the human-environmental field to foster healing.

In this second of a 2-part series, we employed critical discourse analysis to examine how control of enunciative privilege in Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's (RWJF) 2010 and 2020-2030 Future of Nursing (FON) initiatives challenge nursing's ability to enact its collective agency, particularly through professional nursing organizations. Findings are discussed within the context of nursing's self-regulatory privileges, history, and agentic obligations that are bestowed on the discipline by the greater public for the public good.

In the early days of the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, questions were raised regarding nurses' responsibilities to provide care in the context of risk of exposure to this infectious disease. In the United States, these questions were answered relatively swiftly using a deontological framework. If nurses did not have access to appropriate personal protective equipment, they were not duty bound to provide nursing care to patients with a known infection. Another occupational risk hospital-based nurses face is exposure to patient violence. Questions about nurses' responsibilities to provide care in the context of this occupational risk have not been addressed. The purpose of this article is to examine these 2 occupational risks and ethical decision-making frameworks that can be used to answer questions about the provision of nursing care in the face of personal risk. While useful in the context of COVID-19, a duty-based framework seems insufficient to capture the contextual nuances and moral complexity of providing nursing care to hospitalized patients who exhibit violent behavior. Professional duties are explored as are other ethical frameworks. Ethics of the everyday, virtue ethics, and care ethics are introduced as additional perspectives that can help inform nurses' decision-making and actions when they are exposed to occupational risks such as patient violence and COVID-19.

The teacher functions as a guide bringing the learner as a participant into a reciprocal, dynamic process that addresses issues learners are working on, acknowledging and directing learning activity to personal and clinical goals. Outcomes of this process are competencies in health-related functions. The process proceeds with understanding of the learner's internal working model (IWM) of self, other, and relationships. The IWM goals, intentions, and expectations formulate guided participation processes for development of competencies specific to the learner's cultural and personal situation and health need.

We analyzed 211 COVID-19-related learner narratives from online discussion boards. Themes included sharing concerns and strategies related to patients separated from loved ones, honoring strengths in self and colleagues, valuing shared support among work colleagues, realizing the importance of self-care, voicing concerns about working conditions, and recognizing the impact of theory-guided shared reflection. Themes reflected personal knowing and attributes related to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Essentials for Nursing Education. The purpose of this article is to discuss the current status of research mentoring in nursing across 4 countries (the United States, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan) and to make suggestions for future research mentoring....The purpose of this article is to discuss the current status of research mentoring in nursing across 4 countries (the United States, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan) and to make suggestions for future research mentoring. Seven leaders reflected on the current status of research mentoring in nursing, provided exemplars/cases from their own experiences, and their reviews of the literature. Six themes were discussed: ( a ) "culturally defined"; ( b ) "professionally contextualized"; ( c ) "teaching research integrity and research practice"; ( d ) "with mutual respect and care"; ( e ) "based on effective communication"; and ( f ) "supported by institutional and governmental commitment and infrastructure."

These health inequities can be seen to b...The Ri Majel (Marshallese) migrants of Washington State have endured health inequities and unique laws dictating their access to health care once they arrive to the United States. These health inequities can be seen to be a result of historical trauma and militarization of their islands. The research question was an inquiry regarding access to health care for the Ri Majel in Washington State. We first provide detailed historical data in the background to contextualize our research inquiry. We interviewed 12 people and using manifest content analysis found 2 main themes regarding the health of the Ri Majel: (1) health care access and inequity and (2) historical trauma and embodiment. Health care access was impeded by (1) ongoing effects of radiation, (2) repeated denial of services, (3) lack of health care and insurance, (4) lack of language interpretation during health care visits, and (5) poverty. Historical trauma and embodiment were evidenced by these findings: (1) illness and early mortality; (2) provider lack of knowledge and understanding of the Ri Majel; (3) structural discrimination; (4) feelings of sadness and despair; (5) shyness and humility; and (6) a sense of "cannot/will not" and fatalism. Our findings demonstrate the need to examine structural factors when assessing health inequities and a need to understand and mitigate the effects of historical trauma enacted by structural racism, violence, and colonialism. Strategies to mitigate the embodiment of historical trauma require further investigation.

Nurse practitioners may be aware of the significance adverse childhood experience (ACE) exposure has on adult health and well-being; however, they may not be prepared to identify, interpret, and subsequently act on that information. This article presents the development of a conceptual model to guide patient-to-provider communication of adverse childhood experiences in primary care (the PPC-ACE model). This includes a description of the model and its associated foundational elements, underlying assumptions, implications for nursing practice, and opportunities to use this model to guide future ACEs-related research.

Situated within Foucault's theories of power, we review how the power of organizations reaches into the fabric of everyday life and explore how philanthropic foundations have influenced a diverse array of disciplines, including nursing. Through a genealogic lens, we examine nursing history and professionalization and conclude with concerns surrounding nursing's exercise of its collective agency during one of the most significant, discipline-shaping activities of modern times-Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Future of Nursing initiatives.

A concept an...Nurses in a variety of settings frequently use behavior modification strategies to promote health behavior change. Shaming is one such behavior modification tool, but its use in nursing is poorly understood. A concept analysis using Walker and Avant's method was performed. After an extensive literature review, a conceptual definition of shaming is proposed and defining attributes, antecedents, and consequences are presented. Shaming is also differentiated from related concepts often used synonymously such as stigmatization and incivility. Shaming as a behavior modification strategy is incongruous with nursing values and its utilization in nursing warrants further investigation.

In this qualitative exploratory descriptive study, 15 nurses from hospitals affiliated to Iran and Qazvin University of Medical Sciences were interviewed from April to March 2020. Data were collected via purposive sampling by unstructured in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings identified 5 main themes, "fear," "trust/distrust," "excuse," "accessibility," and "support" that were involved in nurses' health-seeking behavior. The findings of this study may contribute to a deeper understanding of the factors involved in nurses' health-seeking behavior and pave the way for further research and policy making regarding nursing workforce health.
