A practice-based theory is described within a Unitary Science p...Touch has been linked empirically to healing outcomes; therefore, developing theories about the dynamics between touch and healing is important for nursing. A practice-based theory is described within a Unitary Science perspective emerging from the findings of a qualitative descriptive study of the experiences of persons with advanced cancer receiving touch (massage and simple touch) during hospice care. Seventeen participants were interviewed. Through content analysis and retroductive constructivist theory development, healing through touch was described as a dynamic process cocreated by healer and healee, characterized by the simultaneous activities of sensing , reflecting , and connecting . Interpretation of findings from a unitary lens led to an overarching theme of touch as sanctuary and explication of theoretical alignment with the concepts of wholeness, awareness, and presence.

Currently, nurses feel overworked, unsupported, and undervalued. This interpretive phenomenological study shares the perspectives of 10 seasoned nurses. The overarching theme is "My job doesn't love me back," supported by "Enough pizza already," "Band-Aid on a hemorrhage," "We were heroes and now no one remembers us," "We used to be so trusted," and "Nursing is psychological warfare." It is imperative that systems and leaders listen to the concerns of nurses and provide avenues for nurses to take action to collaborate and convene organizational culture change.

Directed c...This study explored how parents of children with acquired disabilities transform loss into meaning when faced with traumatic experiences. This type of loss is ambiguous and different from that of the bereaved. Directed content analysis was guided by the predetermined categories of unveiling, darkness, and light. Stories from 8 parents revealed the ability to decide how they perceived their experiences, discovering meaning in caring for their child despite the suffering associated with loss. These findings offer direction for nursing research, practice, and policy on how to assist parents in overcoming these challenges and shed light on the dynamic perspectives of loss.

Drawing on our historical research about Black nurses in British Columbia (Canada) between 1845 and 191...Black nurses are at the margins of the annals of history and there is a dearth of historical accounts of their work. Drawing on our historical research about Black nurses in British Columbia (Canada) between 1845 and 1910, we point to the complexity of Black women's lives and argue that Black nurses disrupted the conceptualization of Blackness and Black womanhood of the time. We demonstrate the vital contributions of Black nurses to the health of communities and add to existing scholarship that redefines the nursing narrative: one in which white nurses are not the start and end point of history.

Fourteen nurse scientists participat...A qualitative descriptive approach examined African American nurse scientists' (AANSs') experiences with African American research participants despite obstacles of structural racism. Fourteen nurse scientists participated in semistructured interviews that provided data for the thematic analysis. Major themes included barriers to overcome as doctoral students, cultural experiences with structural racism, designers of culturally sensitive research, and humanitarian respect and relationship depth. This is the first research study to illuminate the contributions of AANSs who lead research in health disparities. Therefore, nursing leadership needs to illuminate AANSs' contributions, increase nurse diversification, and dismantle structural racism that creates obstacles that ultimately impact population health.

This study sought to advance the literature on Black women's cardiovascular health (CVH) by examining maternal relationship, religion and spirituality, and social connections as potential protective social determinants t...This study sought to advance the literature on Black women's cardiovascular health (CVH) by examining maternal relationship, religion and spirituality, and social connections as potential protective social determinants that buffer the stress of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). The outcome was the American Heart Association's ideal CVH score. Neither maternal relationship nor religion/spirituality was able to buffer the stress of ACEs on ideal CVH. Findings are discussed in terms of cultural aspects of potential protective factors that are critical for future research. Identifying protective factors that may buffer the influence of ACEs on CVH remains a priority to promote health equity.

The purpose of this concept analysis was to define resilience in family caregivers of Asian older adults with dementia using Walker and Avant's method. The findings of the analysis will guide future research about the modifiable factors that will prevent negative health outcomes in this population of caregivers.

The body of this work is linked to a greater call for nursing care that transcends the fragmentation and medicalization of the human experience and advocates for nursing that liberates rather than manipulates those who are most vulnerable. Further exploration of praxiological knowing and refinement in conceptual-theoretical development is advocated.
Precision medicine is a new concept that has been routinely encountered in the literature for little more than a decade. With increasing use, it becomes crucial to understand the meaning of this concept as it is applied...Precision medicine is a new concept that has been routinely encountered in the literature for little more than a decade. With increasing use, it becomes crucial to understand the meaning of this concept as it is applied in various settings. An evolutionary concept analysis was conducted to develop an understanding of the essential features of precision medicine and its use. The analysis led to a comprehensive list of the antecedents, attributes, and consequences of precision medicine in multiple settings. With this understanding, precision medicine becomes part of the broader practice of precision health, an important process proposed by nursing scholars to provide complete, holistic care to our patients. A model for precision health is presented as a framework for care.

Nurses' implicit bias is a global issue; the primary sources of nurses' implicit bias include race/ethnicity, sexuality, health conditions, age, mental health status, and substance use disorders. The current research stays at the descriptive level and addresses implicit bias at the individual level. This article invites nurses to go beyond "the face of the Other" and revisit the ethics of belonging and power.

This concept analysis used a modified Walker and Avant method to clarify the concept of LGBT+ inclusive health care. Antecedents, attributes, and consequences of LGBT+ inclusive health care were identified from the literature. The results of this concept analysis of LGBT+ inclusive health care can inform future research, policy, education, and practice to address the health care needs of this population.

However, there is no clear explanation for this concept of transition. The purpose of this study was to clarify this concept using Rodgers' evolutionary approach. The identified attributes of the concept were a process of learning, repeated undulating emotions, balancing a caring relationship with nurses, and embracing new roles and responsibilities. The findings can provide a knowledge base for future research aimed at enhancing nurses' understanding of transition and promoting parental participation.

Understanding women's perinatal transitions can...Efficacious strategies can now prevent the transmission of HIV from mother to child. However, transmission rates remain unacceptably high, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. Understanding women's perinatal transitions can inform interventions to support adherence to preventive strategies. Therefore, we applied Transitions Theory in a longitudinal qualitative study to explore perinatal transitions among women living with HIV in western Kenya. We conducted in-depth interviews with 30 women living with HIV at 3 key time points and, using our findings, described the theory's concepts in terms of participants' experiences. We then proposed theory-based interventions that could support smooth transition processes and positive outcomes.

Data were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection database in May and June 2022, and analyses were performed using CiteSpace 6.1.R2. A total of 885 studies on virtual reality were included in the bibliometric analysis; 3570 authors from 1283 institutions and 60 countries contributed, and the studies were published in 356 different journals. It will be important for researchers and health professionals to determine the research trends, current issues, and research gaps on virtual reality in nursing.

Based on the analysis of 12 life stories and 1 group interview, an approach based on ethnographic fiction is proposed through the creation of a serial story in podcast format. This approach helps in generating emotions to facilitate understanding and awareness of the issues raised and in showing everyday practices as ways of constructing knowledge. It also avoids turning life stories into academic artifacts with little transformational capacity.

Narrative analysis of 20 story-eliciting interviews with 10 CHamoru adults identified stories of health and illness and living in-betweenness, wherein participants described navigation between health practices of Traditional and Western cultures in the centuries-long involvement with the colonizing culture. Those connections pointed to a conceptual third-space, informed by Homi Bhabha, in which historical trauma and the in-betweenness of Traditional and Western health open new possibilities of what culturally safe health care might look like for CHamorus.

Science addresses facts but lacks language for nuance. This article asserts that nursing, which lags behind medicine in appreciating the value of its stories, must recognize the essential diversity the humanities bring to our understanding of the human condition. As workforce deficits, moral distress, and vicarious trauma proliferate, a consilience between the art and science of nursing and a reminder of their ability to potentiate one another are overdue.
