Health promotion and prevention (HP&P) professionals had to rethink their practices to respond to the challenges raised by the pandemic context. This study aimed to build a professional consensus on the HP&P priorities (apart from the COVID-19 fight) in the early times of the pandemic in Switzerland and to identify the most relevant interventions to respond to these issues. METHODS: HP&P experts from the three main linguistic regions of Switzerland reached a consensus through a two-round Delphi methodology with online questionnaires in June-July and October-November, 2020. Out of 282 experts contacted, 121 (43%) contributed in the first round and 99 (35%) in the second. RESULTS: A strong consensus emerged about the importance of tackling mental health problems, non-communicable diseases and their main risk factors, as well as multiple social determinants of health. Although they believed that HP&P priorities changed in this context, experts reported that professional practices had only partially adapted to this new context due to multiple constraints (political, strategic, financial). The experts noted the need to adapt the means of communication to reach the different target groups. They underlined the potential of communication via digital technologies, but also drew attention to the risk of widening social inequalities due to the unequal access to these resources. CONCLUSIONS: This study generated new insights and confirmed pre-established knowledge regarding the orientations the field of HP&P should follow. While stressing the need to consolidate the traditional missions of the field (i.e. the fight against non-communicable diseases and the actions on social determinants of health), experts surveyed in this study also revaluated health priorities and rethought the way of developing HP&P actions in this specific context of the early pandemic of COVID-19.

It is crucial to identify the factors contributing to vaccine hesitancy to effectively address this issue. This study aims to investigate the impact of social media-specific epistemological beliefs on vaccine hesitancy and the mediating role of health perception in this impact. This study is a cross-sectional study conducted with 444 parents. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, the Social Media-Specific Epistemological Beliefs Scale, the Perception of Health Scale, and the Vaccine Hesitancy Scale. When there is no mediator variable, the total effect of social media-specific epistemological beliefs on vaccine hesitancy is statistically significant (β = -0.219, < 0.001). However, it was found that health perception did not mediate the relationship between social media-specific epistemological beliefs and vaccine hesitancy (β = 0.0038, 95% confidence interval (-0.0090, 0.0205)). Furthermore, it was determined that social media-specific epistemological beliefs positively predicted health perception (β = 0.136, < 0.01). Health perception was found to have no significant effect on vaccine hesitancy (β = 0.028, > 0.05). It can be concluded that social media-specific epistemological beliefs negatively predict vaccine hesitancy, and this effect is independent of health perception. Primary healthcare professionals should consider incorporating interventions aimed at enhancing individuals' social media-specific epistemological beliefs into their health education programs related to vaccines.

Because the transition to college life often overlaps with young adults' increase in independence in food choice and nutrition related behavior, this is an optimal time to target this population and several models exist to best utilize the college setting to support nutrition education interventions. This review aimed to examine the effectiveness of nutrition interventions in university student populations across the League of Arab States. A scoping review following the PRISMA-ScR guidelines was conducted across 14 databases for relevant publications published through May 2023 to find studies conducted across Arab countries. Quality assessment was conducted using the Effective Public Health Practice Project tool. Seven primary studies were included in this review. Although the interventions and outcome measures were disparate, there were positive impacts of the interventions, including improved nutrition knowledge and nutrition habits, knowledge of nutrient sources, and knowledge about the relationship between diet and disease. Recommendations to maximize the efficacy of nutrition interventions conducted across the League of Arab States include purposeful design of the intervention based on a theoretical framework, the use of a control group in the research design, and follow-up measures to examine post-intervention effects. Consideration should also be given to intervention duration and availability in college-students' schedules. Adaptation of intervention materials, measures and delivery methodologies should emphasize local foods, food culture and dietary practices.

The current study assessed the individual characteristics affecting the noticeability of HWLs and the thought of quitting smokeless tobacco (SLT) on noticing HWLs. We further estimated the temporal changes in noticeability and thought of quitting after noticing HWLs over time in India. METHODS: Data from two rounds (2009-2010 and 2016-2017) of GATS (Global Adult Tobacco Survey) from India were analysed to understand the pattern of SLT usage and estimate the relative changes in the noticeability of HWLs and the thought of quitting SLT among those who noticed HWLs. Sampling weights were used during the analysis. Multivariate binary logistic regression was used to explore the determinants for the noticeability of HWLs and encourage the intention to quit SLT after noticing the HWLs. RESULTS: About 25.9% and 20.6% of participants consumed SLT daily or non-daily in two rounds of GATS. Overall, there was a 14% relative increase in noticing the HWLs and a 20% increase in the thought of quitting in GATS-2 compared with GATS-1. The adjusted odds ratio of observing HWLs among SLT users was 1.51 times (95% confidence interval (CI), 1.44-1.58) in round 2 compared with round 1, while the odds ratio concerning the thought of quitting SLT after noticing HWLs was 1.95 times (95% CI, 1.84-2.06) in round 2 compared with round 1. CONCLUSIONS: We observe a consistent increase in the noticeability of HWLs and intentions to quit in SLT users, with significant variations across socio-demographic characteristics calling for concerted efforts. SLT being the major form of tobacco usage in India and Asian countries, HWLs alone cannot bring down the consumption rates, and it needs to be supported by strict implementation of SLT legislation for long-lasting impact.

This scoping review examines virtual GH partnerships involving health professional students, including any barriers identified or best practices and ways to address them. METHODS: We searched PubMed for studies describing virtual GH education partnerships using keywords related to GH, virtual learning, and partnerships. Inclusion criteria were that the activity was virtual, involved health professional students in two or more countries, and was reported in English or Spanish. In-person clinical electives and interventions that had not yet occurred were excluded. Study quality was assessed using the Medical Education Research Study Quality Instrument (MERSQI). RESULTS: The search algorithm yielded 308 articles. Seventeen studies met full inclusion criteria. Four studies described asynchronous formats, whereas 13 were synchronous. Common challenges included scheduling challenges, language barriers, and technological limitations. Suggested improvements included having increased faculty support and expanding partnerships to multiple languages. The median MERSQI score was 8.25 out of 18 possible points. CONCLUSION: There are limited studies investigating the effectiveness of virtual GH education partnerships, and more robust evaluation is needed to further understand the optimal role of virtual education in teaching GH skills. Despite logistical challenges, virtual partnerships can provide innovative GH education through bidirectional educational exchanges that students find valuable.

We outline how fuzzy cognitive mapping can combine, compare, and contextualize knowledge and priorities from diverse population groups as well as from evidence syntheses. We present procedures to represent a shared perspective across populations or population groups through reconciling maps by simple or weighted averaging. We present a novel second approach to reconciling derived from discourse analysis. We then present two procedures to contextualize one knowledge in another knowledge. The first procedure draws on Bayesian updating, providing a formal way to account for stakeholder knowledge in contextualizing other knowledge sources, including evidence syntheses. A second approach compares discourse patterns across maps derived from different sources. We provide examples of each procedure, describe how each may contribute to greater incorporation of patient- and community-level input in decision-making, and share tools for researchers interested in applications of fuzzy cognitive mapping.

However, scrutiny of their mediating and moderating roles could provide insights pertinent to the design of effective HIV and AIDS preventative programmes. This study examined whether perceived behavioural control (PBC) and IUC interact with exposure to HIV and AIDS information (EI), ease of access to condoms (EAC) and level of related knowledge (KN) in determining CCU. It also investigated whether PBC and IUC predict CCU through increasing EI, EAC, and KN. A quantitative approach was adopted and data were collected from 607 participants, aged at least 18, living in Gauteng Province, South Africa. The questionnaire administered included pre-existing items, validated through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis procedures. Regression analyses of the data for mediation and moderation testing were performed using PROCESS macro software for SPSS. The results indicated that none of the SMBEs mediated the non-significant PBC-CCU relationship: = -0.0258, SE = 0.0199, = 0.195. Nor did they mediate the significant IUC-CCU relationship: = 0.0395, SE = 0.0195, = 0.043. Similarly, none of the SMBEs were found to moderate the PBC-CCU relationship (EI*PBC: = 0.0034, SE = 0.0056, = 0.540; KN*PBC: = -0.0006, SE = 0.0064, = 0.931; EAC*PBC: = 0.0011, SE = 0.0059, = 0.854) as IUC-CCU relationship (EI*IUC: = 0.0036, SE = 0.0054, = 0.513; KN*IUC: = -0.0096, SE = 0.0060, = 0.111; EAC*IUC: = 0.0044, SE = 0.0061, = 0.469). A recommendation is made to scrutinise the mediating and moderating roles of SMBEs in the context of health behavioural models other than the theory of planned behaviour, which was considered in this study.

In this study of the Healthy Timing and Spacing of Pregnancies (HTSP) project, led in Siaya County, Kenya, from September 2017 to June 2019, we present findings from the project's evaluation, to determine changes in knowledge of the key HTSP messages; changes in the proportion of community members who correctly identify at least three methods of contraception; changes in knowledge of healthy child spacing; and changes in modern contraceptive prevalence rate. METHODS: This is a two-staged ( and ) cross-sectional study, designed to assess the knowledge, practice, and coverage of HTSP/FP services. Primary data was collected using a questionnaire adapted from the United States Agency for International Development. Focus group discussion participants included men, women, representatives of community groups, faith leaders, and community heath volunteers. Frequencies were calculated from the ODK platform. Bivariate analytics (paired test) were performed. RESULTS: At baseline, women respondents aged 20-29 years constituted 66.3% of the women participants, dropping to 60.9% at endline. Women aged 30-34 years constituted 11.9% and 22% of the entire women respondents, at baseline and endline, respectively. Men aged 20-29 constituted 45.2% of all men respondents at baseline, and 35.4% at endline. There were statistically significant increases in the knowledge of modern contraceptives among women ( = 0.0342), faith leaders ( = 0.0464), and the entire population ( = 0.0097), from baseline to endline. CONCLUSION: The HTSP model identifies success factors for FP interventions in Kenya and other low- and middle-income countries where faith leaders and community stakeholders are influential, and that women and faith leaders are much more easily impacted positively with these efforts, as measured by increased knowledge and awareness of modern contraceptive methods, compared with men.

Beyond the integration of ergonomics in curricula, an important aspect is the effectiveness of the programme. This pilot study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the programme proposed to a sample of middle-school children (aged 10-13 years) of the metropolitan city of Cagliari. METHODS: The programme was designed along the lines of the INAIL (Italian National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work) scheme and proposed to 260 children. It consisted of three phases: 1) assessment of students' background with a pre-intervention questionnaire (completed by 142 students); 2) teaching of the ergonomics training modules and evaluation of the weight of a sample of 160 backpacks, and of students' perception to be able to sit by putting their feet on the ground; 3) evaluation of conceptual understanding of ergonomics concepts with a post-intervention questionnaire (completed by 107 students out of the 142 students who completed phase 1). RESULTS: There was a substantial improvement in the percentage of correct responses post-intervention, confirmed by the chi-square test, regarding concepts about ergonomics, backpack weight and handling. Most of the backpacks exceeded the maximum allowed value, and 20% of students were perceived to be unable to sit putting their feet on the ground. CONCLUSIONS: The practical application of ergonomics pedagogy proved effective in the school setting and should be integrated into school curricula. The prevention technicians can offer a holistic approach, while the teachers are essential to implement the programme on a large scale. Effectiveness evaluation is necessary to guide resource allocation and implement and sustain the HPS approach. A tailored programme has a greater chance of reaching its target audience and maximizing effectiveness.
