INTRODUCTION: Mental health in Kashmir remains a concern and is threatening to become an ever-increasing epidemic. The changing social structure and the low-intensity armed conflict have become the basis of a deteriorating state of mental health among Kashmiris. In addition to this, the other factors are widespread poverty, uncertainty, grief, oppression, fear and high unemployment with limited employment generating sectors. AIM: To assess the depression, anxiety and mental distress among the adult population of Budgam district, Kashmir, India. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the community level in District Budgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India, from December 2019 to March 2020. Total three Investigators, one Senior Research Fellow (SRF) and two Junior Research Fellow (JRF) collected the data. The SRF was a Clinical Psychologist while the JRF were trained social workers. A door to door survey was conducted in the villages which were selected randomly from the list of the villages. The probability random sampling technique was used for the research purpose. Hopkins Symptoms Checklist-25 (HSCL-25) was used in the study and whereby after analysing the scores of the scale, results were derived. Chi-square and t-test were applied for statistical comparison. RESULTS: Out of 133 individuals, 55 were males and 78 were females. The age of the sample ranged from 18 to 45 years, with a mean age of 37 years. Total 29.32% of the adults scored above the cut-off for anxiety symptoms and 34.58% scored above the cut-off for depressive symptoms, while 39% of these adults fall above the cut-off for mental distress scores. The validated cut-off score for the anxiety was 1.75 and for the depression was 1.57. Feeling tense, being worried, nervousness and low energy were reported as the symptoms of the mental distress among the people. Females, unemployed and individuals from lower socio-economic status reported higher degree of mental distress than others. CONCLUSION: Mental health issues in terms of anxiety, depression, and mental distress are found among the adult population in district Budgam. There was a significant mean difference in the mental distress levels concerning various socio-demographic variables. The study concluded that being female, having some medical condition, being unemployed, belonging to lower socio-economic status, belonging to nuclear family predict mental health distress.

INTRODUCTION: Type 2 diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder that has been associated with alterations in the status of trace elements, including zinc, copper, iron and manganese. However, clinical studies reporting statuses of these trace elements in type 2 diabetes patients compared to controls have shown conflicting results. OBJECTIVE: This meta-analysis aimed to summarize the existing literature on the statuses of zinc, copper, iron, and manganese in Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. METHODS: A literature search of Embase, PubMed, EBSCOHost, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Cochrane library and Web of Science electronic databases was conducted to find studies published from 1970 to November 2016 that compared the trace elements of interest between type 2 diabetic patients and healthy controls. Keywords used were type 2 diabetes, diabetes, hyperglycemia, insulin, glucose, HbA1c, trace elements, micronutrients, zinc, manganese, copper, ceruloplasmin, iron and ferritin. The bias corrected Hedges' g, was utilized as the effect sizes. Due to the biological interaction between trace elements, it is important to collectively evaluate the statuses of these minerals in type 2 diabetes. Thus, the robust variance estimation method was chosen to handle dependency between multiple outcomes. RESULTS: A total of 52 studies met the inclusion criteria, amounting to 98 effect sizes. Diabetic patients (n=20183) had significantly lower zinc status when compared to controls (effect size = -1.73, p<0.01); whereas copper (effect size = 1.10, p<0.05) and ferritin levels (effect size = 1.05, p<0.01) were significantly higher. Although not significant, ceruloplasmin (effect size = 1.85, p=0.06) and iron (effect size = 1.42, p=0.06) levels were higher, and manganese (effect size = 0.27, p=0.34) was lower in patients. CONCLUSION: Results from this meta-analysis indicate lower zinc status accompanied by increased copper and ferritin levels in patients with type 2 diabetes when compared to controls.

INTRODUCTION: Bacterial antibiotic resistance is on rise despite advances in the development of new antibiotics. In an attempt to circumvent resistance, scientists are shifting focus from modifying existent antibiotics to identifying new antibiotic compounds. AIM: To assess the potential antibiotic effects of functionalised ferrocenecarboxylates para-substituted on the phenoxy pendant group to form: 4-fluorophenyl, 4-chlorophenyl, 4-bromophenyl, 4-iodophenyl and 4-(H-pyrrol-1-yl)phenyl. MATERIALS AND METHODS: For this, we employed the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method using a collection of nine bacterial species: RESULTS: The results show that all four-halogen substituted 4-fluorophenyl (23.33 μM, 11.66 μM, 5.83 μM), 4-chlorophenyl (10.16 μM, 5.08 μM, 2.54 μM), 4-bromophenyl (9.0 μM, 4.5 μM, 2.25 μM), and 4-iodophenyl (17.12 μM, 8.56 μM, 4.28 μM) exhibited an antibacterial effect by reducing proliferation of . Meanwhile, only 4-bromophenyl (9.0 μM) and 4-chlorophenyl (10.16 μM) ferrocenecarboxylates were able to decrease the growth of . CONCLUSION: Hence, functionalised ferrocenecarboxylates para-substituted with small and simple groups represent a novel class of bio-organometallic compounds with the potential to be used as antibacterial agents.

Implant dentistry has provided a lot of surgical as well as prosthetic techniques for improving the success of the implants. The surgical technique commonly followed now prior to implant placement is bone grafting procedure. One of the commonest techniques is the use of autologous block graft harvested from mandibular chin region. However, interference in healing as well as excessive bone resorption due to the use of removable provisional prosthesis over the bone grafted region has been commonly observed/reported. Hence now-a-days, fixed provisional prosthesis is preferred over removable provisional prosthesis for the added advantages of superior aesthetics and patient acceptance. This article highlights a new technique of fabricating removable provisional prosthesis, which is superior in aesthetics and strength, consumes less chair time and exerts zero pressure onto the grafted site.

INTRODUCTION: Ranula is mucous extravasation cyst that occurs in the floor of the mouth. There are various methods of management of paediatric oral ranula each of which has their own advantage and disadvantage. AIM: The aim of this paper was to systematically review the available literature on the management of paediatric oral ranula. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 64 articles were retrieved by electronic search. Based on the preset inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 21 articles were retrieved for full text analysis. The following characteristics were assessed from the retrieved articles: author, year of publication, study design, sample size, intervention, adverse effects and follow up period. RESULTS: The included studies consisted of the following study design: Seven articles were prospective clinical study, four articles were retrospective review, five articles were case series and five articles were case report. The mode of care varied from surgical excision to drug administration and lasers. CONCLUSION: The data obtained from the review, display a lack of high quality study, with proper sample size and adequate follow up period. Further, randomized clinical trials are required to help the clinicians devise a best treatment approach for the management of paediatric oral ranula.

In dental research, bite force serves as a valuable parameter to evaluate the efficacy of masticatory system. A variety of devices with different design and working principle have been used to record bite force, but no single device is capable to record all the required forces. One may find it difficult to choose a device that will fulfil the purpose of recording bite force for research. So, the present review aims to report and compare the wide range of devices and will help in describing their uses for recording bite force.
