BACKGROUND AND AIM: The aim of the study was to investigate patients' attitudes to and experiences of consultations in general practice where medical students acted as observers or conducted independent consultations. Participants were also asked about the advantages and disadvantages of student involvement. MATERIAL AND METHOD: We conducted a cross-sectional study in which patients completed an online questionnaire in general practitioners' (GPs') waiting rooms, having been invited to participate by medical students in a clinical placement. The results are presented descriptively. RESULTS: A total of 2263 out of 5576 (41 %) invited patients participated. Of these, 1287/2263 (57 %) experienced consultations involving students. Of these, 890/1277 (70 %) reported that they valued the experience and 1009/1248 (81 %) agreed that it was a positive experience. Of the 847 patients who clearly recalled a consultation involving a student, 763/837 (91 %) reported feeling safe and 806/846 (95 %) felt they received adequate care. INTERPRETATION: Although the vast majority of patients in the study felt well cared for in consultations involving medical students in clinical placement in general practice, special attention should be paid to vulnerable patient groups.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: The use of robot-assisted surgery in Norway has increased over the past decade. We report selected quality indicators for robot-assisted oesophageal and gastric resection for cancer or premalignant lesions. MATERIAL AND METHOD: A retrospective review of selected quality indicators following oesophageal and gastric resection for cancer or premalignant lesions at Oslo University Hospital between 2018 and 2024. We recorded the proportion of patients with anastomotic leakage and 90-day mortality, and assessed whether these rates were within the target levels defined by the Norwegian Registry for Gastrointestinal Surgery (NORGAST). For gastric resections, the 30-day reoperation rate was also recorded. RESULTS: A total of 104 patients with oesophageal cancer and 96 patients with gastric cancer or premalignant lesions were included in the study. Anastomotic leakage following surgery for oesophageal and gastric cancer occurred in 17 % and 5 % of cases, respectively. Corresponding 90-day mortality rates were 3 % and 2 %. The reoperation rate after gastric resection was 11 %. All values were within the national target levels set by NORGAST. INTERPRETATION: Target levels for the selected quality indicators were met following the introduction of robot-assisted oesophageal and gastric resection. Use of this technique appears to be safe at our centre, which has prior experience with minimally invasive surgery for oesophageal and gastric cancer.

BACKGROUND: Lyme carditis is a rare manifestation of systemic Lyme disease, typically occurring one to two months after infection. The most common feature is conduction system disturbance, often involving the atrioventricular (AV) node. CASE PRESENTATION: A young woman was admitted to the emergency department after experiencing palpitations. She was haemodynamically stable and had no respiratory distress. An ECG revealed an atrioventricular block with a PR interval of 380 ms. Her medical history included a recent tick bite. Potential causes of conduction disturbances were ruled out and blood cultures were negative, while Borrelia serology showed positive IgG and borderline IgM. The patient received intravenous ceftriaxone for 21 days. Follow-up ECG revealed no abnormalities. CONCLUSION: Lyme carditis should be considered in conduction disorders, particularly in younger patients without a cardiovascular history. The condition generally has a good prognosis, and early recognition and appropriate treatment can prevent unnecessary pacemaker implantation.
